A new library on the horizon!

July 18, 2008 -- During the past few months, Lynne Young, Northfield Public Library Director, Ann Hutton, SELCO Executive Director, and Michael Scott, SELCO Assistant Director, have been meeting with city representatives inLonsdale about the prospects of establishing public library service.  A news item in the New Prague Times reports the City's official action to create a new public library in southeastern Minnesota.  SELCO will continue to work on this project to ensure a smooth transition from bookmobile stop to Online Library.

Lonsdale Council establishes library, board and fund

Lonsdale residents are one step closer to enjoying the benefits of having a public library in town. At the regular meeting of the Lonsdale City Council held Thursday, July 10, the council approved resolution 2008-27 establishing a public library, library board and library fund.

City Administrator Joel Erickson explained that the approved resolution is a formal step required by the State of Minnesota. The resolution establishes a public library in Lonsdale which requires a five member library board and creates a new city account, the Library Fund. Erickson said he has already received nearly 10 applications for the five open board positions.

The library will be built as part of The Villages of Lonsdale, a proposed assisted living facility expected to open in the spring of 2009.
