As a library student, I have taken some great courses—but the most practical and realistic course I’ve taken so far is Library Management. Not only did I learn key attitudes and ways to handle tricky situations, but I’ve had the experience of reading lots of really great management books (and have been recommended plenty more!). Here are some appropriate selections that I highly recommend for any reader:
The ABC’s of Collaborative Change by Kerry David Carson, Paula Phillips Carson, and Joyce Schouest Phillips
Fundamentals of Library Supervision by Joan Giesecke and Beth McNeil
Leadership Without Easy Answers by Ronald A. Heifetz
Smart Communities: How Citizens and Local Leaders Can Use Strategic Thinking to Build a Brighter Future by Suzanne Morse
Presence: Human Purpose and the Field of the Future by Peter C. Senge, Otto Scharmer, Joseph Jaworski, and Betty Sue Flowers
Leadership and the New Science: Discovering Order in a Chaotic World by
Margaret J. Wheatley
