Better than Ice Cream-- 23 Things on a Stick
December 17, 2007 03:30 PM | Training
Maybe you've heard of blogging, Flickr, and some of the other tools librarians are using to communicate with their patrons. Have you ever wanted to play with these sites, but have wanted some support? Have you already been blogging and posting to Flickr but want a chance to explore some other social networking tools out there? Then 23 Things on a Stick is for you.
23 Things On a Stick is the Minnesota twist on the Library Learning 2.0 program developed by Helene Blowers at the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenberg County, presented at Internet Librarian 2006, and adopted or adapted by many other libraries and organizations since then. 23 Things On a Stick was developed by the seven multitype multicounty library systems as part of the staff development the multitypes offer in their regions.
Because this is a multitype project, it is open to all types of libraries, as well as any partners in your organizations-- governing boards, Friends groups, or any other interested members. 23 Things on a Stick is approved for Minnesota Voluntary Certification and CEUs.
23 Things on a Stick
will kickoff on January 28 at the MEMO Midwinter Conference. If you are not attending MEMO but curious about the program and want more information before diving in, Mary Beth and I will be visiting several sites around the SELS region to kick the program off. We will be at the four corners of the region as well as the Rochester Public Library as listed below:
| January 29, 2008 | Red Wing Public Library | 10:00-11:00 AM | ||
| January 29, 2008 | Winona State University | | 3:30PM-4:30 PM | |
| January 31, 2008 | Northfield Public Library | 1:30PM-2:30 PM | ||
| February 5, 2008 | Rochester Public Library | 3:30PM-4:30 PM | ||
| February 7, 2008 | Albert Lea Public Library | 9:00AM-10:00 AM |
Everyone who registers by February 15, 2008 and completes all 23 items on the list by April 13, 2008 (National Library Week) will receive a completion prize and be eligible for other prizes. Otherwise, there is no deadline and this course will remain online through 2008. The program is self-paced and self-directed, but communication with other 23 Things participants is encouraged to help you along your way.
Monitoring of the program will begin with Thing 1- registering your blog. From then on, you will blog about all of the 23 Things and each blog post will be considered your entry for the next thing. The time you can spend on these 23 things varies, depending on the amount of time you want to spend playing.
