Upgrade to SELCO Anti-Spam Solution

| Automation

Mick Reese, Systems Manager

One of the first tasks I undertook when I started as Systems Manager was to improve the anti-spam software used to filter email coming into SELCO.

Our new spam filter from Barracuda Networks went live the week of December 18.  For several SELCO staff, myself included, the results were apparent within the first couple days, as the amount of unwanted email dropped dramatically.

We have indeed done the proper configuration to assure this device will not cause bounce-back or other excessive backscatter. It seems Barracuda Networks has become aware of this problem, and has changed the default configuration of the Anti-Spam device, and also has published some good in-depth articles on configuring the device.

The Barracuda anti-spam appliances are notorious for causing a lot of backscatter in their default configuration. I hope that we have been a good netizens and taken the configuration steps necessary to reduce the backscatter.
