Tyler Irvin, Regional Librarian

This morning I went over to the Northfield Public Library to check out their Spring Break Music and Magic Legacy program.  It is (obviously) spring break for the students at the Northfield Public Schools right now and the Library wanted to have something available for programming.  Normally they find it difficult to set up programs during the week because of different release times at the schools.  With Spring Break Music and Magic Northfield Public Library provided three days of entertaining programming with "Take a Trip with Music" on Tuesday which featured singing, instruments, books, and games, "Close-up Magic with Tim" on Wednesday, and the "Marvelous Magical Music Museum & Instrument Petting Zoo today.

The instrument petting zoo was presented by local musician Geoffrey Guy Weeks who provided a massive collection of instruments to entertain and educate.  Weeks even provided small percussive instruments for the younger children sitting down and center to play around with during the program.  Rather than a true open house, the program was more circular in nature and after about 70 minutes, Weeks would go back to the other side of the map that the instruments resided upon.  It was an enlightening experience and the children really enjoyed being able to play some of the instruments.  The children were surprisingly knowledge about music in general with some answer questions I couldn't have until I was five or six years older than they were.
