A patron recently took exception to the phrase "Claims Return" and contacted an Online Library to complain that it implies dishonesty. In response, it has been proposed that we change the phrase in Horizon to "Unverified Return".
Known Implications for SELCO
The change will involve only a small amount of time and effort for SELCO staff. Horizon training will have to be updated to incorporate the change.

Following discussions with the ILS Operations & Technology Policy joint committee, SELCO is considering changing the time set aside each day for processing notices. While it is not feasible to reduce the time set aside (90 minutes), it is feasible to move the window later in the day if that would help Online Libraries complete their local processing. Currently, the time set aside is from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. We could move this window back as late as 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
With budgets getting tighter and demonstrated higher use of other subscription databases, SELCO has made the decision not to renew with Lawcheck for the next year. Normally, our subscriptions have begun in August of each year and ended in August. However, LawCheck seems to have terminated our access early and is no longer available. Terry is working on removing the links from each library's Research page.
SELCO staff are preparing presentations for the next Technology Users Group meeting, to be held on September 13, 2011. While we have some ideas of our own, we are interested in suggestions for topics you would like to see us cover.
Timeframe for Comments
Suggestions for Users Group topics will be taken until the end of the day on Wednesday, August 10, 2011.

It has been proposed that the request limit in OverDrive be increased from three (the current limit) to five.
Technical Background
The request limit in OverDrive can be set by SELCO. The current limit, three, was selected during the implementation process when we had no real-life experience with the service. At that time, we were concerned that use of the collection might outstrip our budget to purchase titles. …

Just in case anyone wishes to comment on the two Requests for Comment that we recently posted and is unsure how to do so, SELCOtv has posted two short episodes:
It has been proposed that the “Maximum Number of Days with Fines” setting in the Horizon Integrated Library System (ILS) be raised to 1,095 days. The current value, 180 days, is preventing patrons at some Online Libraries from accessing OverDrive and MnLINK services. It is not possible to eliminate the setting altogether.
Technical Background
"Maximum Number of Days with Fines” is a system-wide setting that prevents patrons with long-outstanding fines, …
It has been proposed that individual Online Libraries be allowed to opt out of the quarterly public library borrower purge in order to pursue other means of maintaining Borrower records in the Horizon Integrated Library System (ILS).
Technical Background
The public library borrower purge cleans up the Borrower database of any record that does not have any Blocks and has been expired for a year or more. This keeps the database clean, promotes good system performance, …
When the ILS Operations & Technology Policy joint committee discuss making changes to our processes, we often ask ourselves how the proposed change will affect the Online Libraries. As library representatives, the members of the ILS Operations committee are well-prepared to answer that question. But without every Online Library at the table, it's sometimes hard to know when a change might work for most libraries but have a negative impact on a few. …
