Flood Recovery Information

SELCO/SELS is ready to provide assistance to any library in southeast Minnesota affected by the recent flash floods.  Please contact the SELCO Help Desk at 529-4469 (local) or 866-529-4469 (toll free) to request information or assistance.  The following information should help you get started.

Map of Libraries Affected by the Floods

We've added a map showing Southeastern Minnesota Libraries affected by the floods.  Information from the Flood Status Report Blog is incorporated into the map, allowing you to click on a library and see any blog entries associated with that library.

Status Reports on Libraries Affected by the Floods

We've started a blog to track status reports from libraries affected by the floods.  Local librarians are encouraged to post information on their own library or report on behalf of those without power or Internet access by sending an email to the SELCO Help Desk.  We will copy the information into the blog.

Information and Assistance From the Minnesota Historical Society

Bob Herskovitz, Outreach Conservator at the Minnesota Historical Society, can provide information and assistance for any library or other cultural institution affected by the floods:

The Minnesota Historical Society has disaster response and recovery information posted on their web page, which would be helpful to your member libraries and the public:  http://www.mnhs.org/preserve/conservation/emergency.html

ILL and Delivery

  • Delivery will continue as scheduled based on current road conditions.

  • Houston and Rushford Public Libraries have been made non-requestable.  All school media centers are currently non-requestable due to the summer break.  There may be delays for some media centers coming back online.

Collections

  • Disaster Preparedness and Response
A list of resources on how to deal with flood-damaged collections from Stanford University

  • Flood Recovery
From Iowa State, a booklet dealing with flood recovery, with a generous section on treating damaged materials

Computer Equipment

  • If your computers were purchased through SELCO, contact the Help Desk with serial numbers and the make (Gateway, Dell, etc) of each device.  We can help determine the best way to repair or replace the computers.  If you are a PC Support customer library, we already have this information on file and you don't need to worry about gathering it.  PC Support customers can also contact the Help Desk about peripheral equipment such as barcode scanners and receipt printers.

  • Regardless of whether or not your library gets PC Support, we have loaner equipment available.  Contact the Help Desk for further information.

  • Do not attempt to use computer equipment that has been exposed to mud or water without first contacting SELCO or another PC support vendor.
