EnvisionWare E-Commerce Implementation

11-13-2008  DRL  Since the last update to this project, we have:

  • Selected Home Federal Savings Bank in Rochester, MN as our Merchant Processor.  Home Federal can deposit funds into any bank account in SE Minnesota and we hope to use them for all customer libraries when we roll out the E-Commerce Value Added Services.  If all sites can use the same Merchant Processor, we will not need to purchase additional SSL certificates (as described below).
  • Created a web page for the E-Commerce (Stand Alone) Value Added Service and posted supporting documents including a sample contract and fee schedule from Home Federal showing credit card processing fees.  The sample contract was included in the January-December 2009 contract packet that was emailed out in late October.
  • Purchased and installed the Virtual Server that will be used to host the customer web servers.

The next priority is to document settings for the SELCO location that is to be installed on 11-20-2008.

10-21-2008  DRL  EnvisionWare has confirmed that we will need an SSL certificate for each Merchant Processor used.  This is an issue since the choice of Merchant Processor is often driven by the library's bank--many banks only work with certain Merchant Processors.  Implication:  SELCO will select a Merchant Processor that works as universally as possible.  After that, Online Libraries will have their choice with the understanding that they will have to pay for an SSL certificate if they choose another Merchant Processor.  Mick has a final quote from Dell for the host server and will make the purchase this week.  Jonya will take repsonsiblity for recommending a Merchant Processor to the team.

10-20-2008  DRL  We have scheduled the EnvisionWare installation for 11-20-2008.  This installation will get the application running and set up the SELCO location.  Once this is done, adding new locations should be fairly easy.  After this initial installation, we will add Chatfield Brass Band Lending Library followed by those Online Libraries who choose to sign up for one of the e-commerce Value Added Services (in development).  Based on EnvisionWare teleconference last week, our top priorities now are:

  • Purchasing and installing the server that will host the vitual servers for each location using e-commerce
  • Selecting and signing up with a Merchant Processor to handle the credit card payments for each location using e-commerce.

10-15-2008  DRL  Held teleconference with EnvisionWare Implementation Consultant to create draft timline and identify information needed by SELCO and EnvisionWare.

08-29-2008  DRL  Based on a recommendation from the ILS Operations / Technology Policy joint committee, the SELCO Executive Committee voted to proceed with purchase and implementation of the EnvisionWare E-Commerce solution.  It is to be offered as a Value Added Service for Online Libraries that wish to accept credit card payments for Horizon fines and fees.  Payment may be taken online (through the iPac) or in person at the library.  For Online Libraries unwlling or unable to pay for a full EnvisionWare license, a second Value Added Service will be offered.  With this service, payment may be made via SELCO's iPac profile.  Funds will be distributed by SELCO based on a formula to be determined; our goal will be to distribute funds among the participating libraries as fairly as possible.

First step is to get a base project plan from EnvisionWare that can be used to create our own plan and timeline.  Goal is to have this running no later than 12-31-2008 with the Value Added Services starting on 01-01-2009.  Mick and Donovan will contact EnvisionWare.
