Book Report Application Code Review
04-11-2008 TC Tested out features of classblogmeister. Relatively easy to set up the teacher's blog, add & publish a post, change templates, add links. Setting up a classroom and students is a little trickier. After I added a class, within the Class Panel, there should have been extra options appear in the interface that allowed for new students to be added. They did not appear, until after I added a second class. Later, I found it impossible to delete a class, even though I had clicked the delete class button. After clicking it the message, "Sorry! You are not properly logged in as this blogger!" appeared. Also, the first class added cannot be deleted at all. Rather frustrating. I also setup a couple student accounts, tested adding a post, comments, etc. All work as advertise.
Also, the manager of Class Blogmeister, David Warlick, mentioned, in an email, other school blogging software that might work. I will check these out as well: "ePals has a school blogging solution (http://epals.com) and so does Gaggle (http://gaggle.net). Imbee (http://imbee.com/) is a new social network for students that I'm also impressed with. Educators I respect greatly are also have success with 21 Classes (http://21classes.com/)" -- email from David Warlick.
04-10-2008 TC Emailed classblogmeister for pass code to set up a test account.
04-09-2008 TC Moved this project to Web category. When finished looking at classblogmeister.com we'll discuss w/ Kris.
03-31-2008 DRL We have identified an online application, http://classblogmeister.com/, that might accomplish what we are looking for. If it works out, we will not have to develop the application ourselves. Tom is looking it over to see if we can use it.
01-22-2008 DRL Donovan will set up an appointment with Kris so we can get started.
01-10-2008 DRL This task was suspended due to systems staff turnover. It has been assigned to Tom. Possible first steps:
- visit Willow Creek school media center to gather user stories on how the application should look and function
- survey existing solutions to see if someone has done this
07-30-2007 DRL Review has been completed. Database has been restructured. Development of administrative module is in progress; first draft is nearing completion. This draft will be used to test functionality. Display and user module will follow.
07-16-2007 DRL New database design has been developed. Still needs to be implemented. Has created 5 stories describing how the application is used. Incorporates improvements and new functionality. Paul B. is going to code the administrative functions first. After that, student reviews followed by teacher functionality.
07-02-2007 DRL Higher-priority tasks have been completed and we will conduct modeling of the existing application at the next team meeting. This will incorporate structural improvements for scalability and functionality.
04-23-2007 DRL Nothing new to report. Initial survey of issues should be complete by mid-May; the process has been delayed by several higher-priority tasks that should be winding down in the next few weeks.
04-09-2007 DRL We have begun reworking selected portions of the application.
03-12-2007 DRL We will investigate the specific
functionality failures reported on
03-07-2007. We've had some trouble
duplicating their problems here; a site visit may be required. Paul
will talk to Kris and make sure she calls him directly when the
problems occur.
02-26-2007 DRL The Willow Creek book review application has been a little buggy and we are doing a code review to diagnose the problems and determine what action is neccesary.
