Implement Spanish-Language Version of HIP
11-18-2008 DRL Project was discussed at ILS Operations & Technology Policy joint committee meeting on 11-13-2008. The joint committee recommended that SELCO cease development on the catalog and implement a Spanish language interface as part of the upcoming AquaBrowser project. We know that AquaBrowswer has a Spanish interface out-of-the-box but we haven't seen it and thus don't know how complete/polished it is. Any changes we make to the look and feel of the catalog will have to be similarly updated in the Spanish version, of course. The joint committee further recommended that the three libraries currently using the test catalog be allowed to keep using it, if desired. No further development or improvement will be made. Pending notification of the test libraries, this project is now complete.
10-21-2008 DRL We just got an email from our contact at Mayo HS today. We will set up a demo for the media center staff as soon as possible. Reports on catalog use at Northfield PL and Red Wing PL are showing no use since 10-01 at either Online Library. Aurora will contact both libraries to see if they can offer any insights on this.
10-15-2008 DRL Northfield PL is up and running. Efforts to contact Mayo HS continue. We're contacting Diane P. to see if she can get any response. Northfield provided some input from the city Cultural Liason, which focused largely on known issues.
09-24-2008 DRL Red Wing PL is ready to go; the profile needs to be made live and the tab to reach it needs to be added to their English interface. They start tomorrow (09-25-2008). Northfield PL's orientation is today, they will also go up tomorrow. Efforts to set up orientation for Mayo HS continue. Aurora will handle publicity (News and SELCO Librarian) tomorrow.
08-29-2008 DRL iPac profiles for the volunteer Online Libraries have been created and we are in the process of orientating them with the catalog. The volunteers are: Red Wing PL, Rochester Public School--Mayo, Northfield PL. We should be able to have them running in time to report at the Sept. ILS Operations/Technology Policy joint committee meeting.
07-01-2008 DRL The ILS Operations / Technology Policy joint committee has decided to test the translation at a handful of sites before making it available to the entire region. DRL will send out a call for volunteers.
05-15-2008 DRL The survey is closed. 35 libraries responded; 21 were not interested, 14 were interested. There did not seem to be a geographic pattern to the responses. In general, larger libraries were more likely to be interested. Aurora will summarize the results for submission to the ILS Operations/Technology joint committee for a recommendation.
5-14-2008 AJ The survey was sent out 4-18-2008 and is scheduled to close 5-15-2008.
04-14-2008 DRL Some final changes need to be made to the test Spanish PAC. Mick will establish a time with Aurora to implement these changes and she will send the survey out.
02-26-2008 DRL After failing to get this to the top of my To Do heap, I have passed it on to Aurora. She will get the survey out and we'll proceed from there.
01-15-2008 DRL After looking at this with the ILS Operations and Board Technology Policy Committee in July 2007, it was decided to do a survey of the Online Libraries to assess interested before proceeding. This was shelved due to the turnover in systems staff in the late Summer and Fall. We are now proceeding with the survey.
07-18-2007 DRL Ran into a problem with some of the translations being incomplete. This has been fixed. We will demonstrate the catalog for the ILS Operations / Board Technology Policy Committee on 07-19-2007 and release thereafter.
06-05-2007 DRL DRL will send out a message; responses will go to Paul B., who will manage profile creation.
03-27-2007 DRL We will proceed with this task in Summer 2007. Aurora will work with the libraries to coordinate communication and track each library's decision on whether to use the Spanish PAC. Craig will work with Paul Beeman to set up the profiles.
03-09-07 JP This message from Joanne at Mayo HS: I had a couple of students look at the catalog today. They thought everything looked good so far. They had a question on the basic search page where you hold the arrow down to choose author, title, keyword, etc. We're assuming that things are just not complete and we can take a look again when more has been added.
12/7/06 JP Document developed and sent to Craig and Donovan for review.
11-28-206 DRL Diane Plager has some testers lined up. Jonya will develop a list of operations to serve as the basis of the testing protocol for review at next week's meeting. After that, we will set up a time with Diane.
10/10/2006 JP Confirmation at CODI that this will be around after we move to 8.x. Craig suggested we move to the SELCO-refined vanilla version and then allow the various committees to refine the tool. Donovan will discuss this with Ann.
10-10-2006 DL Donovan has contacted Dianne Plager at RPS about having a Spanish class or club vet the page and provide translations for SELCO-created text.
08/15/06 JP Donovan is in discussion with Aimee and Ann regarding compensation for translator. Craig is identifying iPAC pages where we have changed the language and should be reviewed; it can be assumed that SirsiDynix's translator has done a satisfactory job with the vanilla version of iPAC.
06-27-2006 DRL Ann Hokenson has contacted a possible interpreter and we are waiting for a response. We need to find out from SirsiDynix how this fits in with the 8.x upgrade/migration before proceeding further.
05/16/06 JP Craig has this on the production server and we are waiting for a Spanish interpreter's assistance. Donovan will talk with Austin Public Library about finding an interpreter.
04/25/2006 DL By next meeting, CO will install Spanish-language PAC to our production server (although it will not be available to the public).
04/11/2006 JP Craig and Aurora will begin further investigation shortly. There will be some text translations on the catalog's instructional and directional text. This text should be reviewed by Spanish-language translator. Donovan will talk to Barbara about the Spanish-language outreach grant to locate a translator.
03/28/2006 JP See 3.06a Upgrade task to see additional notes.
03/14/06 JP This is part of the 4.1.1/ 8.1 upgrade
02/08/05 JP It has been confirmed by Dynix Support that the Spanish Language HIP requires HIP 3.06. We are deferring this task until we make that upgrade.
1/27/05 JP Craig will evaluate the process and documentation available and report back to this meeting.
11/12/04 DRL John Perry says Spanish language HIP isn't available until HIP 3.06 and we've decided not to upgrade to this version but wait for 4.0. (scheduled for release December 2004)
