As you may know, recently MNLINK switched over to OCLC’s Worldshare product. As a result of this switch over and after much investigation we have determined that in order to fully take advantage of this switch over to OCLC, SELCO must move the OCLC numbers in our MARC records from the 035 to the 001 MARC tag.
Beginning Monday, May 22nd, SELCO is asking the catalogers to cease editing of MARC records between the hours of 6pm to 6am. Any changes made to records during this time may result in the changes not saving, but also will risk data corruption issues that could affect the entire region. We anticipate being done with this project by mid June, but we notify all when cataloging can commence once more between 6pm and 6am.
Aside from this temporary cataloging cutoff, catalogers will not need to make any changes to their workflows. Going forward, the OCLC number will automatically save to the 001 field. Please do not delete any new 001 fields with the OCLC number in them.
If you have questions or concerns please contact the SELCO Help Desk and we will do our best to address them. Thank you for your cooperation.
