Each year the Friends of the St. Paul Public Library bestow Minnesota Book Awards (MNBA) to authors, illustrators, and book artists in eight separate categories: children’s literature, general non-fiction, genre fiction, memoir & creative non-fiction, poetry, young people’s literature, Minnesota, and novel & short story. SELCO in turn sponsors MNBA author tours featuring both winning and nominated MNBA authors at the member libraries. In addition, SELCO also offers Book Club in a Bag kits for each year’s MNBA winners. These can be checked out through your local library.
SELCO works with local libraries to build regional author tours around the MNBA winners. During the Winter of 2017, we featured regional favorite Doug Ohman between February and April. An avid photographer, Doug has been a part of the creation of seven books featuring his photography. Prairie, Lake, Forest: Minnesota’s State Parks was a 2011 MNBA Finalist and Barns of Minnesota was a Finalist in 2006. With a plethora of programs to choose from, the public was encouraged to stop by one or all to hear and see wonderful stories and photos from all across Minnesota. All events were free and open to the public!
Brand new for 2017, there is a dedicated Author Tour website where detailed information can be found about the author, the programs, and their locations: mnba.selco.info
The MNBA Winners – Book Club in a Bag Kits are available for checkout! Each kit includes 10 copies of a book, reader guides, and bookmarks in a handy canvas bag.
